We take a bike ride to Clearwater

The next morning we walked into Dunedin for breakfast. We found a little deli/breakfast place. Marion had berry French toast. Very tasty. I was wearing my Phillies T-shirt (since Clearwater is the spring training home of the Phillies). Which prompted some (favorable) comments from people. The waitress told us a story about working at a restaurant where Brad Lidge (closer for the Phillies) used to come in but she never knew it was him. Finally someone told her and now she’s all excited but he hasn’t been back since then.
We walked around town. It’s a cute little place. Most things were closed though. Marion found a few trinkets to bring home. We stopped outside a bakery to consider whether to go in just long enough for the owner to latch onto us and invite us in, talking nonstop. I think she had been drinking coffee since early morning. We told her we were from Portland, which she confused with Portland, Maine and proceeded to tell us about her son, the doctor, who was given a great offer to work up there. She also told us how amazing all her baked items were, how she used real chocolate from Europe, etc. etc. We of course ended up buying a bunch of stuff, but I have to say, it did not live up to the hype.
That afternoon we rented bikes from the hotel (big handle bar one speeds) and rode down the Pinellas Trail (a multi-mile bike/pedestrian trail) to Clearwater. A nice town. Pretty quiet on a Sunday afternoon. We passed the Toronto Blue Jays spring training facility where a game was going on.
Florida is absolutely flat. We felt like we were coasting downhill in both directions. Our one-speeds were not a problem. But as usual, I can only sit on a bike for so long then it’s time to stop. So we came back after a few hours and had dinner at a good Mexican place. Then it was time to pack.
