Les drove until 10:30. Then I drove until Midnight. Les took over and took us all the way to Oregon. The first Portland sign said 430 miles, somewhere past Redding, and before Weed. We hit the Oregon state line at 3:19 am. The 3/4 moon helped Les out most of the way but it had set by the time I took over at 4 am. and zombie drove until about 6:30 when Les took over again (thus saving us from certain death). On top of everything, there was plenty of fog to reduce the visibility to about 30 feet. But we made it to Les’ house at about 8:30 am.
We unpacked his stuff and I made it home about 9:30. Daniel and Marion seemed happy to see me which was good news. A grand total of 6704 miles, or roughly one-quarter of the way around the world. Not too shabby for 3 weeks work. In all we hit 11 states and saw license plates from 48, missing only Rhode Island (too small to generate tourists) and Hawaii (difficult to drive from). It’s been somewhat jarring to come back to life in the suburbs. Crowded streets, strip malls, people everywhere. But I’m sure I’ll adjust. Going back to work should be equally interesting. I don’t remember slowing down, but I sure did. Everything seems to be moving by me very quickly. It’s sad, but I’m sure in a week or so, I’ll be moving just as fast.
