Marion had talked for awhile about going to Costa Rica. To see the monkeys. But the thought of just booking a flight and a hotel down there somewhere was a bit daunting. So when Audrey and Hugh invited us to go with them on a cruise to Panama and Costa Rica, and it was a photography cruise to boot, we jumped at the chance.
This is a record of our adventure. You can see where the boat took us on this map:
- Day 1 & 2 – Portland to Panama City, Panama City
We fly from Portland to Panama City and hang out for awhile - Day 3 – Panama Canal
We traverse the western half of the Panama Canal, visit the visitor’s center, and buy some trinkets - Day 4 – Darien Jungle
We visit the village of the Embera people - Day 5 – Coiba
We go snorkeling and kayaking at Granito de Oro Island - Day 6 – Golfo Dolce
We go hiking in the rain forest at Harvey’s Place and visit Casa Orquideas (House of Orchids) - Day 7 – Corcovado National Park
We go hiking in the rain forest and have a picnic lunch with the monkeys at Caletas Beach - Day 8 – Manual Antonio National Park
We brave the hanging bridges of the rain forest canopy tour and search for wildlife in Manuel Antonio Park - Day 9,10 & 11 – San Jose and Home
We disembark, take a bus to San Jose, take a tour of San Jose the next day, and head home
