East Coast Trip Log – May/June 2016

This is the account of our 55th birthday trip in May/June of 2016 (specifically May 24th-Jun 3rd) to Philadelphia, Pottstown, PA, Princeton and New York City.

As has become our custom, we planned a trip for our 55th birthdays (big trips on the 5’s and 0’s). The original plan was to go to Barcelona, Spain and hit New York for some theater on the way back. Marion has always wanted to go and I’ve never been to Spain (but I kinda like the music…). But when we finally started checking airfare and hotel prices it was clear it was going to be seriously expensive. And there had been a fair amount of trouble in Europe lately, what with terrorist bombings and Syrian immigration and my back was questionable and before it was all said and done we decided maybe staying in the US was the way to go.

New York remained on the agenda. We hadn’t been to Broadway in a while and we had already arranged to meet Daniel and Eve there. So as long as we were going back East, we could go to Philadelphia and Pottstown and Princeton and I could do a little genealogy research and finally spread my father’s ashes at the ball fields at the Hill School and Princeton like he wanted. It had been almost 8 years since he died after all.

Marion had never really done Philadelphia, other than a day visit where she “got” to spend the day at a wholesaler craft market with Susan (my step mother) while Dad, Daniel and I did the Independence Mall thing. So that sounded good to her. It’s a relatively short drive from there to Pottstown and Princeton is on the way to New York.

So that was the plan. 4 days in Philly, 2.5 days in Pottstown, 1.5 days in Princeton and 4 days in New York.

Note: In the photo gallery, pictures Marion took are denoted with an (MK). The rest I took.
